Based in London, Otzi is a small studio creating leather goods entirely by hand. Each piece is hand cut, stitched and riveted using traditional tools and methods, ensuring no two are the same. The stitching is either saddle or box-stitched and ensures a quality that no machine can replicate. Copper rivets are used not only for their beautiful colour, but for their strength and durability.
Otzi was a man who lived over 5,000 years ago. He was found mummified in a peat bog in Austria. Surrounding him were all his possessions, including a small leather bag; the oldest ever known. This too was stitched by hand from animal hide and used to carry his indispensable items. Very little has changed in the processes of leatherwork, despite the huge array of design possibilities. His name is Otzi and my name is Otis.
